Fused Glass
I have always loved glass! I got a bottle cutter in college and then it sat dormant for over 30 years. I have learned the craft from my friend and neighbor, Kitty (who also teaches at Craft Alliance ). I am still learning, participating in workshops with local glass artists and trying new techniques on my own. When you stop learning, its time to pack it up and move on!
Each piece is hand-crafted and one-of-a kind. Products are food safe; hand washing is recommended. Use in a micro-wave is NOT recommended. The majority of sheet glass that I work with is from the Bullseye Glass Factory in Portland , OR. I also produce works using recycled glass.
Fused or kiln glass is made by taking sheets of flat glass, cutting them, adding decorative elements such as other forms of glass (stringers, frit and confetti) gold, silver, copper & other metals (such as wire, foils,etc.). Usually at least 2 layers of the flat glass are needed. This is melted (fused) together in a kiln at a high temperature. Next, that flat layered piece is melted (slumped) over a ceramic or stainless steel mold in a kiln. The resulting product is known for its sheer beauty, quality, strength and durability.
More than anything, i enjoy working with transparent glass and choosing the colors and embellishments that will make up my finished "creation". I make both functional and decorative items. .I'm thrilled to see others appreciate my work and that my pieces find good "homes"!
